Tim Höttges, Chairman of the Board of Management said, " “The upheavals in the world, and their consequences, are not without their effects on Deutsche Telekom. “But by continuing to execute our strategy, we were nevertheless able to meet all of our targets in 2022.”

On the low-band spectrum expected to be auctioned in 2025, Hottges believes that 1&1 should be barred from participating in the auction for failing to meet its network obligations. He said, “ I personally think that 1&1 has lost the eligibility for participating in an auction because they have not fulfilled their duties from the last auctions. They’ve only built three sites and they should have built something around 1,000.”[2]

Hottges added that his company won't give up the spectrum and that the regulatory authority shouldn't schedule another auction but rather extend the term of the frequency. He said, "to conduct an auction in an emerging recession does nothing to greater the economic picture, and will again distract the money that is needed for a faster rollout in our industry." He also added, “ We are not scared by an auction. Nevertheless, we think it’s a wrong signal at the wrong time. ”

“ We have by far the biggest customer base which we are serving, and on top of that we are the leader with regards to quality. Therefore, we don’t see that we have to give up anything here." said Hottges.[2]
