August 4, 2023: Meta's Ray-Ban Stories launched in September 2021 have failed to attract many users, that's according to internal documents seen by the Wall Street Journal. The documents indicate that less than 10% of the Ray-Ban smart glasses are actively used. Meta sold 300k of these devices but Meta has only about 27k monthly active users. Meta sold each device at $299. Ray-Ban Stories enables users to take photos and videos. It also enables them to take phone calls and listen to music. Despite its low usage, it has experienced a return rate of 13%. Things impacting its usage include battery life, audio problems and voice commands and inability to import media from devices. The report added that Meta plans to launch the second generation of the device either in fall or next spring. The new smart glasses will take into account the issues noticed in the old model.
